The Lee’s Summit R-7 School District believes that online secondary courses provide new opportunities in the delivery of instruction for online students. These courses are designed with Lee’s Summit curriculum and will be taught by certified LSR7 teachers. A variety of instructional materials will be utilized to deliver the content including a variety of texts, various applications used in conjunction with the Schoology learning platform, discussion boards, group projects/collaboration, and more. The course curriculum is consistent with the regular school program; however, teaching will be conducted in a virtual format with the teacher physically separated from the students. Students work independently and at various times of the day or week. Middle school students will have synchronous learning activities in their core courses (Science, ELA, Social Studies, and Math) at least two times per week, and elective courses will be mostly asynchronous. The high school students will learn through mostly asynchronous learning methods. Teachers communicate with students/parents through the Schoology platform, email, phone, and virtual meeting environments. Students enrolled in an R7 Secondary Online course are expected to keep up with assignments and follow the guidelines in their High School Handbooks. The LSR7 Secondary Online office staff and students’ counselors work collaboratively with the online instructors to provide a support system for enrolled students. Like many districts around the nation, Lee’s Summit is aware of the need to expand access for students to high-quality online courses needed for graduation. R7 Secondary Online courses will be an avenue for students to meet these graduation requirements and prepare students for success in their post-secondary life.
